Wardell image

In the 1850s, Wardell was a cedar getter settlement known as 'Blackwall' where two sawmills operated and the river trade flourished. As the availability of cedar wood diminished, so the opportunity arose for the planting of sugar cane and this now remains the main industry of Wardell. Wardell is a great fishing spot and the 'Wardell Walkabout' is a self guided tour of the historic buildings of a bygone era. Wardell is located upstream on the Richmond River, a small riverside village with a serene location. A popular spot spot for anglers and a great place to start your journey along Tourist Drive 28. Surrounded by sugarcane farms, Wardell is well worth a visit! Make sure you pick up a delicious Wardell pie while you are there.
