buttonThe twin towns of Wyalong and West Wyalong exude the charm of the gold rush era, featuring numerous historic buildings and vintage shopfronts. Located at the crossroads of the Newell and Mid Western Highways, 154 kilometres north of Wagga Wagga and 139 kilometres southwest of Parkes, West Wyalong emerged from the plains after gold was discovered in 1893. The town honours its gold-mining heritage with parks and museums, such as the Wyalong Museum, Beckett’s Pioneer Farm, and the 25-metre Poppet Head structure above a mineshaft. You can explore the Green Corridor walking track, which leads to the original town of Wyalong and its array of historic buildings. Nearby, you can visit the historic bush towns of Tallimba, Ungarie, Weethalle, Barmedman, and Mirrool. Don’t miss Lake Cowal, a haven for migratory birds, or the Wedding Mountains, once a hideout for bushrangers.
