buttonWhale Beach is a 600 metres long, east-facing beach bordered by 40 metres high Little and Careel heads. When the winds are coming from the south east, the waves roll through and bounce off the rock ledge, creating the beautiful ‘wedge’ effect. In the right conditions, ‘the wedge’ produces waves like no other, although they are for more experienced surfers. There are also good beach breaks which can be fun in a northeast or east swell. Sometimes there is a strong shore break which can make swimming dangerous. There is a 25-metre rock pool on the southern end of Whale Beach. The sandy base of the pool on the ocean side creates an immersive experience and its location makes you feel like you’re swimming in the ocean itself. There is a flat rocky platform just south of the rock pool where you can roll out your towel and relax. The perfect beachside escape, Whale Beach has plenty of great restaurants and cafes nearby.
