buttonScarborough is a coastal suburb located approximately 25 minutes north of Wollongong. Growth took place in the 1880s, spurred by the establishment of coal mining, with villages established around the coal mines. Scarborough was originally known as South Clifton. A hotel opened in the area in 1887 and was named Scarborough Hotel. The South Clifton railway station was renamed Scarborough in October 1903, and the use of the name South Clifton was discontinued. The Scarborough Hotel is a popular destination for locals and day-trippers from Sydney, with spectacular views over the ocean.
