buttonBring all your fun water gear and splash on down to Stony Creek for the day! Stony Creek is a beautiful natural swimming hole in Bellthorpe National Park. It’s a boulder hopper’s dream, surrounded by gorgeous Australian native bushlands. You can find the main swimming hole after a two minute walk down a flat, dirt walking track. Have a blast in the water with some friends or with the family, make sure to be mindful of other visitors, and perhaps skim some rocks over the water — as the name implies, there’s no lack of rocks to practice your skimming skills with. After you’re finished in the water, there’s a beautiful grassy area where you can pull the picnic blanket out to enjoy a packed lunch. Please note that there are no bins in this area, so you’ll have to take all rubbish with you. Alternatively, the Stony Creek Day Use area has a great gassy spot with picnic tables with woodfire barbecues (you’ll need to bring some timber) to cook a tasty meat on! Please double check the fire restrictions in the park before lighting a match. The Stony Creek Day Use area is also home to a variety of birds, insects, and wildlife. If you listen out, you may hear the male whipbird’s high-pitched ‘whip and crack’ call, followed by a ‘choo-choo’ from the female. Explore the northern end of the day use area to find rock pools and small waterfalls to play with – these special spots are perfect for the kids to enjoy, or perhaps see a native fish or turtle! Stony Creek is a beautiful place in the Moreton Bay Region to have fun in the water, picnic and explore. There is no shortage to the fun and special moments that you can share with friends or family. While a bit more than a stone’s throw from the Central Business District at a 90 minute drive, this is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy nature.
