Located 38 kilometres south of Port Broughton and 20 kilometres north of Wallaroo, Tickera is a small town on the western coastline of Yorke Peninsula overlooking Spencer Gulf. Famous for its fantastic crabbing opportunities, Tickera is also referred to as ‘The Crab Capital of the Spencer Gulf’ with many fishermen netting and raking for Blue Swimmer crabs in the warmer months (best between September and April). Initially surveyed in 1882, the township of Tickera remained relatively small for a number of years before experiencing building and population growth in the 1970’s when holiday home purchases were made, and people began retiring to live in the town permanently. Tickera has a number of heritage buildings including the Tickera School which opened in 1887, and operated through until 1933, Tickera Hotel (September 1884 to October 1905), and the Methodist Church, built in 1889. Things to do: • Boat ramp • Fishing • Golf Course • Parks & reserves • Tickera Memorial Park • RV Friendly • The Tickera Community Club offers monthly meals and welcome visitors to their clubrooms • Historic Well In addition to raking or netting for Blue Swimmer crabs, Tickera is also a popular fishing location with anglers targeting whiting, garfish and squid. Find out more about some of the fantastic fishing to be found along the coastline in this part of the Top of The Yorke.
