buttonEudunda locals are proud to claim Eudunda as the birthplace of Colin Thiele, author and educator, who is recognised as one of Australia’s most versatile writers. He has published more than 100 books in many fields. Some of his novels include Storm Boy, Blue Fin, The Fire in the Stone, and Uncle Gustav’s Ghosts. It is from the latter that Eudunda has chosen to use the interpretation of Uncle Gustav as their logo. Uncle Gustav and his dog are not only characters of fiction, they also are indicative of the pioneers who opened up this area with their wives and families and of course their faithful companions nearby to help in their daily chores. To those pioneer families who settled in the district and made this their home, the locals pay tribute in the Family Heritage Gallery located at 17 Bruce Street. Open Friday – Sunday 10am to 2pm The Eudunda Silo Art has was completed by artist Sam Brooks, and it’s well worth the visit. ‘Eudunda: The Storytime Silos’, features incredible 30-metre-tall silos and is based on a story written by, Colin Thiele ‘The Sun on the Stubble’. The book tells a story about two children sharing stories about their past and culture that invokes playfulness, open-mindedness and joy that we see in children. The Ngadjuri storybook was made in collaboration with local Elder and Ngadjuri spokesperson Quentin Aeguis. It showcases a summary of the area and connects to the culture, customs, people and lifestyle present today and in the past. Off-street carparking is available on Railway Parade, with a short stroll to the Silos. Eudunda also has a fantastic caravan park with 8 powered sites for cars, caravans, RV’s, trucks, buses and tents in the formal park area. There is also a large flat area at the rear as a free park / free camp area.
