buttonThis small shack-village on the shores of Great Lake in Tasmania's central highlands has excellent trout fishing and stunning scenery. Great Lake is 22 km long and has the distinction of being the highest lake in Australia. It offers good fishing and good walks along the shore and there are plenty of opportunities for bird watching or simply relaxing by the waterside. However, be warned; this is one of the coldest places in Tasmania and in winter the stunning snow-covered landscape is best enjoyed by a log fire. Accommodation in and around Miena includes lakeside hotels and self-contained lodges and shacks. Miena is a 1 hr 30-min drive (110 km) south from Launceston and a 1 hr 40-min drive (132 km) north from Hobart.
