buttonWestbury is a classic 19th century village surrounded by hedgerows and lanes reminiscent of old England. This classified historic town has so many beautiful old buildings you could easily spend a day simply wandering its tree-lined streets. The town has a village green, old courtyards and stables, elegant old inns and many charming houses. The green is reputed to be one of the few traditional village greens in Australia. In the 1830s, soldiers stationed nearby used it for parades and archery competitions. Prisoners were put in stocks on the green and during the summer, it was used for fairs. Also at Westbury is the world famous Pearns Steam World with its collection of hundred-year-old agricultural machinery and the world's largest collection of antique steam engines. Westbury is a 25-min drive (34 km) west of Launceston.
