buttonTake the picturesque inland route to the 12 Apostles and discover Camperdown amid volcanic craters. Lush natural pastures of the Great Ocean Road region are home to dairy farms producing mouth-watering cheeses, which can be sampled and purchased at nearby Timboon. Take in 360-degree views from Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf, the highest points between the coastal ranges and the rolling western plains. Volcanic activity has shaped much of the surrounding landscape, leaving a legacy of cones, lakes and craters. The region is now one of the world's largest volcanic plains. Fish for trout and chinook salmon, and enjoy boating, swimming or water skiing on Lake Bullen Merri and Lake Gnotuk. For a dose of fresh country air, climb aboard your bike and head along the Camperdown Timboon Rail Trail to take in rolling green pastures, volcanic lakes, historic trestle bridges and pristine bushland. With a growing reputation for fine local produce and gourmet offerings, the Camperdown region now attracts foodies from across the state. Traverse the 12 Apostles Gourmet Trail and fill your boot with everything from whiskey, cheese and wine to yoghurt, strawberries and craft beer. Visit on the first Sunday of each month to browse the craft market and snap up home-produced goods like cakes, produce, plants, clothing and novelties. Camperdown is just over two hours drive from Melbourne on the inland route.
