The suburb of Botany Bay has an approximate area of 34 km².

It is surrounded by the suburbs of Banksmeadow, Botany, Brighton-le-sands, Dolls Point, Kurnell, Kyeemagh, La Perouse, Mascot, Matraville, Monterey, Phillip Bay, Port Botany, Ramsgate Beach, Sandringham, Sans Souci and Taren Point.

It is comprised of parts of the councils of Botany Bay, Rockdale and Unincorporated.

It is comprised of parts of the state electorates of Heffron, Maroubra and Rockdale.

It is comprised of parts of the federal electorates of Cook and Kingsford Smith.
