Visual Arts

About Us

Visit Cowra's local art & craft hub at The Work Room attached to the Visitors’ Information Centre, with the entrance from the covered walkway on the eastern side of the building. On a regular basis the room is open to the public for purchase of hand made items.

History

The group of visual and textile artists began in 1962 with the main emphasis at that time on visual art. Soon after other arts were included such as china painting, spinning, weaving, knitting, crochet, embroidery and recently quilting and patchwork. China painting is not presently active.

Group Activities

Throughout the year various workshops are held, one of these during Seniors Week, but mostly members meet in a friendly environment and assist one another.  Although the main object of the group is to promote and encourage textile and fine arts within the district of Cowra, the group is constantly involved in community projects.

Currently ongoing projects are:

  • a biennial art exhibition in the Cowra Regional Gallery and periodic exhibitions in the adjacent Visitor’s Information Centre
  • making items for either sale, raffle or general exhibition with some proceeds going to local charities and also for specific charitable needs
  • sponsorship of sections in the Cowra Show
  • Christmas gifts for Cowra Family Support

Please Note: Meeting arrangements, use of facilities and Sales of Handicraft may be affected by any current health restrictions.

Facilities include:

  • extensive arts and craft library for the use of members
  • tea & coffee making, microwave, refrigerator
  • air conditioning
  • area for display of members’ craft/artworks for sale
