buttonThe beautifully preserved village of Gundaroo is a popular place for visitors. Lying in a fertile valley with rich grazing land on the upper reaches of the Yass River, Gundaroo retains all the elements of a typical 19th-century Australian township. Gundaroo's major attractions are several historic buildings still in use today that were constructed between 1860 and 1890. A range of building styles and materials, including slab huts, wattle and daub, stone and locally-fired brick, is displayed. The Royal Hotel (1865) has an award-winning restaurant, Grazing, while the old Commercial Hotel (1872) now trades as the Gundaroo Colonial Inn. Fully restored and recognised as one of the country's best historic hotels, this establishment has continued operation, holding its colonial wine licence for the past 130 years. Pizza and coffee are served in the Cork Street Café, once the local police stables and lock-up.
