Meals
Please check with staff prior to bringing in snacks for patients. Meals are served in the unit dining room during the following times:
- Breakfast: 7:45am
- Lunch: 12:15pm
- Dinner: 5:15pm
Jasmine Unit has a small dining area and families are asked not to sit with their family member during meal times.
Leaving the ward
Jasmine Unit is a locked ward designed to maintain the safety of all patients admitted to the unit. The ability for patients to leave the ward and visit other areas will be assessed by the team. Initially patients may require supervision outside the ward by family and/or friends.
Patients may be allowed to leave the unit (after gaining medical and therapy clearance from the Rehabilitation team) for short periods under constant supervision of a family member or an appropriate friend.
As a patient progresses, the family or friend will be encouraged to take the person home for day or "weekend pass". This provides an opportunity for patients and family to enjoy time together outside the Jasmine Unit.
It is a policy that patients leaving for overnight pass or weekend leave wait until therapies have finished. Patients are required to return to the ward prior to 9:00am after an overnight pass, unless prior discussion with the team.
Families are required to advise nursing staff and complete the patient leave book when patients are leaving and returning from pass, these books are located at the administration desk (Day leave and Overnight leave).
It is also important to let the ward staff know of any problems whilst on pass, or any comments about the pass.
If at any time on pass you are concerned about the patient, please contact Jasmine Unit on 3893 8483 or 3893 8484 for information and assistance. For medical emergencies please call 000.
Length of stay
Patient's length of stay in Jasmine Unit can range from approximately 4 months to 6 months.
