Casuarina Lodge - Pandanus Unit

Pandanus houses the general health care beds for the Wynnum and Manly Community-Health Centre, Gundu Pa.

Pandanus is part of the Redlands Hospital and caters for slow strength medical patients alighting in home placement and slow strength respite.

• Pandanus Unit is an 8-bed facility located at Casuarina Lodge Building in Wynnum West.
• Pandanus Unit does not provide residential care services.

To access the services in Pandanus Unit, patients will need to be referred through the bed management at the Redlands Hospital.

• 8:00am to 8:00pm

We recommend family members communicate with staff at the unit to arrange the best time for visits.

What to bring
When you are admitted to the Pandanus Unit, please bring:

• Appropriate comfortable clothing (e.g. pajamas, shorts, tracksuits, t-shirts).
• Toiletries (soap, soap container, toothbrush, tooth paste, shaving kit, shampoo, conditioner, tissues and any other preferred toiletries).
• It is important that all personal property is labeled and kept secure.
• Relatives and friends are encouraged to bring in photographs, musical devices etc. to assist the patient to feel comfortable in the unfamiliar surroundings.
• Electrical appliances are allowed once they have been tagged and tested by the hospital electricians. Please communicate with staff members if you have questions.

Your room
Pandanus Unit provides single bedrooms with televisions; however, bathrooms are shared. Patients will be allocated a room on admission to the ward.

Meals
Please check with staff prior to bringing in snacks for patients. Meals are bedside services during the following times:

• Breakfast: 7:30am
• Lunch: 11:45am
• Dinner: 4:45pm

Leaving the ward
Pandanus Unit is a locked ward designed to maintain the safety of all patients admitted to the unit. The ability for patients to leave the ward and visit other areas will be assessed by the team. Initially patients may require supervision outside the ward by staff members, family and/or friends.

Length of stay
Patient's length of stay in Pandanus Unit would depend on the medical condition and can range from approximately a few days up to six months.
