About Us
Wisteria Unit is a 16 bed, authorised unit operating within Bayside Adult Mental Health Services that offers a structured and supportive environment for consumers aged 18 to 65 years of age who require 24-hour, 7 day a week, sub-acute inpatient care. Through the provision of collaborative treatment and mental health rehabilitation services, Wisteria Unit aims to provides consumers with the opportunity to enhance daily living and social skills with a view to realising their personal recovery goals.
Wisteria Unit has a large garden/courtyard area, own room with shared ensuite, well-equipped gym, music room, sensory room, lounge and dining areas.
Referrals
Referring service to complete a Transition of Care (TOC) if service is located within Metro South Hospital and Health Service and/or contact Wisteria Unit Nurse Unit Manager via email at [email protected] or via phone on 07 3893 8360.
Wisteria Unit staff will contact the referring service and arrange an assessment time. We strongly encourage potential consumers to visit the unit, to assist with understanding our environment and the services we provide.
Accommodation costs
Consumers pay a fee consistent with the provisions of Hospital and Health Boards Act Part 2 Section 20 and Part 2 Section 47 Health Service Directives Subsections (1) and (2) (g), Health Service Directive and Queensland Fees and Chargers Register.
Meals are included in this price. The financial capacity of each consumer will be assessed, and alternative payment options may be considered where appropriate in consultation with the Nurse Unit Manager.
Visitor information
Visiting hours in Wisteria Unit are:
- 8:00am to 8:00pm
We recommend family members communicate with staff at the unit to arrange the best time for visits.
What to bring
When you are admitted to Wisteria Unit, please bring:
- Personal items (including appropriate clothing, laundry powder, toiletries and cigarettes if applicable).
- $200.00 for Wisteria Unit hospital trust.
2 weeks supply of medication (including depot medications and prn’s) - Wisteria Unit has laundry facilities and consumers are responsible for the washing and drying of their own clothes.
- A personal safe is located in each bedroom for consumers to use.
- Personal electrical appliances are allowed to be used once they have been tested and tagged by the hospital electricians.
Your room
Wisteria Unit has 16 single bedrooms, all with shared ensuite facilities. Consumers will be allocated a room on admission to the ward.
Meals
Meals are served in the unit dining room during the following times:
- Breakfast: 8:00am
- Lunch: 12:00pm
- Dinner: 5:00pm
Leaving the ward
Wisteria Unit is a locked ward designed to maintain the safety of all consumers admitted to the unit. The ability for consumers to access the community for leave will be assessed by the medical officers on admission and throughout the length of stay.
Length of stay
The length of stay is dependent on consumer needs; however, the service aims to assist most people to transition back into the community within three months.
Rehabilitation Program
Wisteria’s rehabilitation program is flexible in delivery and is aimed to meet the needs of the consumers throughout their recovery journey. Key therapeutic groups and interventions occur throughout the week (Monday to Friday) and consumers are also assisted to access the community on weekends where appropriate.
Multidisciplinary Team
Wisteria Unit is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians who provide therapeutic interventions with regards medication and symptom management, physical activity and recreational sessions, as well as social skills, daily living skills, and nursing-based education.
