About Us
Our Intensive Care Unit at the Mackay Base Hospital includes 9 beds. It is a specially staffed and equipped unit in the hospital which provides 24hr care for patients with life threatening or potentially life threatening conditions from our highly trained team. Sometimes admission to ICU is planned such as after major surgery; however it may also be unexpected.
Nurses, doctors and many other health professionals who are involved in caring for the patient use a team approach.
Patients may be transferred to metropolitan hospitals for care and management that we cannot provide at the Mackay Base Hospital.
