About Us

Physiotherapy assists individuals reach their best functional capacity. We can assist patients with cardiorespiratory and neurological conditions, a range of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions and any condition or procedure resulting in difficulties with mobility and functional independence.

Our services

Physiotherapy staff are available at the Mount Isa Hospital from Monday-Friday 8:00am – 4:30 pm.

Inpatients

Physiotherapy provides services to inpatients of medical, surgical, paediatrics, maternity, and ICU wards for a variety of reasons:

  • Improving functional mobility
  • Prescription and training in the use of mobility aids
  • Assisting respiratory patients improve their ventilation and secretion removal
  • Preventing deconditioning of long-term patients through regular mobility, exercise and positioning
  • Assisting postoperative patients return to function
  • Assisting postpartum return to function

Outpatients

  • The range of outpatient services offered include
  • Musculoskeletal/orthopaedics/postoperative
  • Paediatrics – Developmental/club foot/cerebral palsy/orthopaedic/respiratory
  • Women’s health – Antenatal/postnatal/incontinence/pelvic floor disorders
  • Respiratory – COPD management/ 6-minute walk test
  • Neurological conditions
  • Men’s health – continence/pelvic floor disorder

Mobility Equipment

During the inpatient admission the physiotherapy department can provide patients with a range of mobility aids – please contact us for more information on 07 4744 4444. Many patients require a range of mobility and other equipment for discharge. The North West HHS physiotherapy department provides single use axillary and Canadian crutches to patients for discharge.
