Our respiratory service investigates diseases and other disorders of the lungs, including: 

• lung cancer 

• pulmonary nodules 

• pleural effusion 

• interstitial lung disease 

• pulmonary embolism 

• pulmonary hypertension 

• asthma 

• chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) 

• bronchiectasis 

• chronic cough 

• haemoptysis 

• occupational lung disorders 

• respiratory infection 

• pulmonary sarcoidosis 

• pulmonary TB and LTBI 

• home oxygen assessment 

• chronic respiratory failure 

• suspected sleep disordered breathing 

Services 

• Spirometry (pre and post bronchodilator) 

• Complex pulmonary and lung function testing 

• DLCO/lung volume 

• 6-minute walking test (6 MWT) 

• Overnight oximetry (blood oxygen level test) 

• Bronchoprovocation (testing to diagnose asthma) 

• Flexible bronchoscopy 

How to access this service 

To access this service, your GP or medical practitioner will need to send a referral letter to the hospital. If there is a waiting list, you will receive a confirmation letter and be advised on what to do next. If there is no waiting list, you will receive an appointment booking letter or we will contact you to arrange a suitable time for your appointment. If you are an inpatient in hospital, you may be referred to this service by a hospital clinician.
