About Us
The Townsville HHS Gerontology Department is a multidisciplinary unit with staff specially trained in caring for the elderly in the North Queensland community.
Services:
- Medical care to patients in Medical Ward 5 (delirium-dementia)
- Geriatric evaluation and management
- Orthogeriatric shared care program
- Transition care program (Elder Care Team provides this discharge service)
- Comprehensive research and training program
- Adjunct lectureship with JCU
- ACAT assessments for those requiring placement from hospital
- Falls and balance
- Telehealth to rural and remote areas
- Inpatient Telehealth
- Specialist clinics - 65 years or older (50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander).
- Age-aware clinic - memory loss/cognition
- Falls/balance clinic - falls/mobility/immobility
- Geriatric review clinic - general medicine in the older person - e.g. general health in old age, Parkinson's disease in old age, osteoporosis etc.
- Community Geriatric clinic
- OncoGeriatric clinic
- Frailty Intervention Team (FIT)
- TeleGero medicine clinic
Via Telegero, a televised link, we are able to provide specialist services to rural and remote hospital areas including, but not limited, to the following areas:-
- Ayr
- Bowen
- Charters Towers
- Clermont
- Cloncurry
- Collinsville
- Home Hill
- Hughenden
- Ingham
- Mackay
- Mornington Island
- Mt Isa
- Proserpine
- Richmond
- Sarina
- Winton (but can be extended outside these areas).
- Referrals
Referrals can be made by any medical practitioner
