buttonSurrounded by majestic mountains, dense rainforest and teaming with wildlife, Maydena is close to some of Tasmania's most beautiful natural places including Mt Field National Park and Southwest National Park. Before the township of Maydena is Mt Field National Park with some of Tasmania's most beautiful and most photographed waterfalls, including Russel Falls just a short walk from the Visitor Centre. On from Maydena the road heads west to Southwest National Park in Tasmania's Wilderness World Heritage Area and famous Lake Pedder. Maydena is a great base for bushwalking with walks from 30 minutes to 10 days or for a more unusual alternative try a Railtrack Rider - four-wheeled rolling stock that's pedal-powered along a now disused rail track through beautiful forests. Nearby are the Giant Trees of the Styx Valley with a short boardwalk around a forestry reserve to these incredible trees. Maydena offers accommodation in a variety of cosy self-contained cottages and cabins and there's a summer restaurant for dinner, a cafe, an RSL, and a take-away and general store. Maydena is around a 1-hr drive (84 km) from Hobart.
