Upcoming Events in Waratah-Wynyard

Wynyard image

Wynyard is on a beautiful stretch of Tasmania's North West Coast with beaches and bays in both directions. During spring, the city comes alive with tulips in bloom on Table Cape and surrounding farmland. Wynyard is sheltered by nearby Table Cape, an ancient extinct volcano containing some of the most fertile soils in Tasmania and ideal for growing tulips. You can visit the Table Cape Tulip Farm between September and October. Also in October is Spring Loaded, a popular month-long event celebrating the town's tulips, with the feature event the Wynyard Tulip Festival occurring on the 2nd Saturday in October each year. If you're a collector, try the town's monthly market on the foreshore; it's one of the biggest antique, bric-a-brac and craft markets on the coast. You'll also find treasures in Wynyard's many second-hand stores and op-shops. At the multi-award winning Wonders of Wynyard Exhibition and Visitor Information Centre you'll enjoy the world class Ransley Veteran Car Collection (owned by the Elphinstone Group), which includes the equal oldest ford in the world. Visitors can also browse the local art gallery and choose from a large selection of local products for sale. Nearby is Fossil Bluff, a sandstone bluff where you can look for fossils in the shore rocks at low tide. Follow the Geotrail to discover the many geological wonders of Wynyard. The North West's major airport, Burnie Airport, is actually at Wynyard (go figure) , making it the perfect place to start exploring the region. The airport is serviced by Regional Express and QantasLink, and has flights to Melbourne and King Island. Wynyard is a 45-min drive (60 km) west of Devonport, where the passenger ferry Spirit of Tasmania docks.
