buttonOn the doorstep to the Baw Baw National Park, the West Gippsland tourist town of Neerim South is an idyllic stopover with its breathtaking scenery plus galleries and boutique B&Bs. A trip to the snowfields of Mt Baw Baw isn't complete without some time in Neerim South, with its local shops selling fabulous cheeses or the regional growers and their super-fresh produce. Stock up on meats direct from the butcher, like the venison from Gracefield. During the summer months the bush trails beckon. The Rokeby to Neerim Rail Trail is an easy ride that boasts views of Tarago Reservoir, Bunyip State Forest and Mt Baw Baw, while the Glen Nayook Rainforest Walk follows the Tarago River to a fern gully where the river runs underground for 100 metres. Pack a lunch and stroll along the fern-laden banks of the Latrobe River, experience a tour on horseback, or take the West Gippsland Hinterland Drive through magnificent and incredibly diverse landscapes. Help conserve the lush flora and varied animal life of Glen Nayook by joining a volunteer group. Neerim South is 110 kilometres from Melbourne, or about one hour and 20 minutes by car along the M1.
