About Us
The Bunbury Woodturners Association is a group dedicated to the craft of woodturning, providing a supportive environment for both beginners and experienced turners. The association focuses on promoting woodworking skills through workshops, demonstrations, and collaborative projects. It also fosters community engagement, encourages creativity, and offers members access to tools, resources, and expertise. Regular meetings and events allow for skill development, knowledge sharing, and networking among woodturning enthusiasts.
You can attend up to 3 sessions before committing to become a member. Annual membership to WAWA (Woodturners Association of Western Australia) is required. As a member you are entitled to take part in any WAWA activity at any venue. Your spouse or partner is entitled to become an Associate member at no cost.
The Association runs a weekend workshop each month at various metropolitan and country venues, the location of which is advertised in our Newsletter which you will receive on a bi-monthly basis. Associates are welcome to attend these Workshops and an alternative program is often provided for them. A small entry fee is charged to offset the cost of the venue hire etc. plus members are requested to provide a plate to be shared at morning and afternoon breaks. The Association provides tea & coffee. Most host groups provide lunch for a small cost, or you may choose to supply your own. The program of these workshops is designed to cater for all levels of ability; it is educational and entertaining with plenty of time for fellowship. There is a competition each month which you may enter if you wish, whilst this is purely your choice it is an opportunity to develop your skills. The members are friendly, and the weekends are good fun. If when attending you do not recognize anybody, just ask at the desk for the Host who will gladly show you around and introduce you to members.

Our passion is the continued promotion of the ancient craft of woodturning. This is an ancient craft that is being continually enhanced by the inclusion of new processes and new equipment whilst still using timber as its inspiration. If you’re an experienced woodturner or if you’re simply interested in knowing more about this craft this is where you start. Our association has clubs located across Western Australia and each club is engaged in offering the members of the area access to equipment, skill enhancement and mateship all centred around woodturning.
