Central Highlands Council has an approximate area of 8,000 km².
It is comprised of the suburbs of Bradys Lake, Brandum, Breona, Cramps Bay, Dee, Derwent Bridge, Doctors Point, Fentonbury, Flintstone, Hermitage, Hollow Tree, Liawenee, Little Pine Lagoon, London Lakes, Meadowbank, Miena, Morass Bay, Osterley, Reynolds Neck, Shannon, Strickland, Tods Corner, Wayatinah and Wilburville plus parts of 5 suburbs including Apsley, Lower Marshes, National Park, Pelham and Westerway.
It is comprised of the localities of Arthurs Lake, Bothwell, Bronte Park, Butlers Gorge, Ellendale, Gretna, Hamilton, Ouse, Steppes, Tarraleah, Victoria Valley and Waddamana plus parts of Central Plateau, Florentine, Interlaken, Lake Sorell, Lake St Clair, Melton Mowbray, Millers Bluff, Mount Field, Southwest and Walls Of Jerusalem.
It is surrounded by the councils of Derwent Valley, Meander Valley, Northern Midlands, Southern Midlands and West Coast.
It is within the state electorate of Lyons.
It is within the federal electorate of Lyons.
