About Us
The Townsville University Hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) is a level-six tertiary unit managing all specialties other than burns and transplants. All our medical and nursing staff have advanced qualifications in critical care, ensuring they are able to look after the sickest patients in our community.
The unit is set up into three pods. Pod 1 is our general ICU side where critically ill patients are more likely to need care for more than 24 hours. Pod 2 is our post-operative surgical side, mainly used for patients who need overnight care. Pod 3 is for paediatric intensive care.
The unit is a member of the State-Wide Intensive Care Network and its performance is measured against all the other level 6 units in the state.
