About Us
The Adult Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit (AAMHIU) is a public facility located at the Townsville University Hospital for people experiencing mental illness who cannot be adequately supported in the community environment. The facility has a highly specialised team who can assist with all aspects of a consumer’s treatment and recovery including psychiatrists, a social worker, an occupational therapist, mental health nurses, an Indigenous mental health worker and access to a range of other support services.
Friends and relatives are welcome to visit inpatients at the Acute Mental Health Unit between the hours of 8:00am-8:00pm. However, the safety and wellbeing for all consumers and visitors is our priority, so visiting is at the discretion of the shift coordinator.
